Wanda Julienne is a successful investment broker at Whilt Investment Services. Everything is going smoothly until she takes time off for maternity leave. When she returns she learns how hostile to woman her work environment is. Suddenly she finds herself struggling to find balance between her career and her responsibilities to her baby while fending off the sexual harassment of her boss and the sexism at Whilt.
The main character, Wanda, is solid enough that I quickly became emotionally invested in her situation getting better. She had me shaking my head sadly when she was avoiding the problems or talking about her situation with her friends. A great deal of her struggle was internal — and pleasing to me when she overcomes the internal challenges to face the ones in her workplace. Wanda’s friends and love interest have less depth than her, but are still multi-dimensional. The antagonists are fairly one-sided and can be categorized easily.
The plot didn’t surprise me; the outcomes of Wanda’s (and other characters) decisions were what I’d expect in a story. The story has a good pace and reads well. You could easily find yourself reading the entire book in one sitting without any difficulty. I liked that while there’s romance present; the romance is clearly not the focus of the story.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. If you like underdog stories or lighter stories about women fending off sexual harassment in the workplace, you might enjoy this one.[easyreview cat1title=” ” cat1detail=”” cat1rating=”3.5″]
